The Fire Support Technician will work within the goals and objectives set forth by the Fire Management staff within the Forestry and Fire Management Team and North Dakota Forest Service (NDFS). The primary responsibilities of the position are to supervise one to two seasonal firefighters stationed at Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park. The position will work with the park manager to complete assigned duties within the ND Park and Recreation managed lands (approximately April-September). When fire response assistance is requested, the Fire Support Technician will respond with the seasonals to assist in fire suppression on both in-state and out-of-state fire emergencies. During the second half of the year (October- March) the Fire Support Technician will assist the Fire Management Specialist in training fire department and state personnel. This will consist of setting up, finding other instructors, and teaching courses in various locations. The position will also be responsible during this period, for maintaining the ND Forest Service fire vehicles, managing the fire cache, recommending/ordering equipment and training materials, and taking care of various other equipment such as programming radios and global positioning systems. This will include screening and tracking of equipment through the Federal Excess Personal Property and Firefighter Programs for the following year.
Minimum Qualifications:
* Associates degree or equivalent related experience
* Minimum NWCG Qualification of engine boss position within the Incident Qualifications System
* Valid ND Drivers License
* Ability to communicate verbally and in writing, including public speaking
* Computer experience, including Word Processing (MS Word), Database management (MS Excel or Access), and MS PowerPoint
* Completion of the arduous pack test
Preferred Qualifications:
* Performed as NWCG certified engine boss within fire response
* Previous experience training NWCG classes
* Demonstrated ability to consistently implement identified action items
* Demonstrated ability to interact and collaborate with diverse groups and projects at multiple levels
* Self-starter with the ability to follow through initiatives and projects to completion
* Previous experience developing and applying a fire hazard assessment system to a project, property or jurisdictional area and select effective mitigation strategies
* Experience facilitating meetings, prepare presentations, and motivating partners
* Basic Wildland Fire Management Knowledge:
* General fire behavior, causes of fire, influence of weather, topography and fuels on fire, and methods of extinguishing fire. Any other type of work, training, or knowledge that demonstrates the ability to perform the work of the position or familiarity with the subject matter
* Knowledge of safety practices, ten standard fire orders, and eighteen "watch out" situations to prevent injury or loss of life |
